Lakeshore Wellness and Recovery
Therapist: Colleen Kasten, SAC-IT
I have had a lifelong passion to help others when needed. I began following this road at the age of nine, working with people with disabilities, in nursing homes, and CBRF’s. I am very active with various Autism groups and Ozaukee County 4H.
In May 2018, I graduated with High Honors/Pi Theta Kappa with my Associates Degree in Applied Science with an emphasis in AODA (alcohol and other drug abuse) and obtained my SAC-IT (Substance Abuse Counselor – In Training) license. I am currently in school completing my bachelor’s in psychology and working on my master’s degree as a Licensed Practicing Counselor (LPC).
As an AODA counselor, I work with various groups in which each person is treated as an individual, with respect, in a non-judgmental atmosphere. I enjoy working with teenagers, adults and the elderly. My approach is to not only walk side by side with the person, but to help them learn how life can be fun again without the use of any substance. In 2020, I joined the board of Just Listen – Recovery Coaches to help in assisting people through their sobriety.
The approaches I use in working with clients are Cognitive Behavioral Theory, Dialectic Behavioral Theory, Mindfulness, and most importantly, compassion and understanding. In treating people with respect and as an individual, it helps them with their journey in finding who they truly are, and that life has so many amazing things to offer.
The journey has just begun, there are so many roads and wonderful opportunities out there, reach for your dreams and never give up as you are in control of your own destiny.
